Is owning a pet hamster a big responsibility?
Answers:
Owning any pet is a big responsibility. You are taking control of the life and wellbeing of another living thing, for as long as its natural lifespan may be...with some animals that can be decades.
Whenever you are thinking of getting a pet, get a lot of information on the animal and its requirements, and think it over.
It's a big commitment.
owning any pet is. might be a little less then a dog but it is still a big responsibility
Well, not as big as a dog, that is just probably okay. You can figure out yourself when I finish telling you what to do and I'll give you my opinion alright?
*Feed them/give water
*Clean their cage (if you don't want your house to be stinky)
*If you have 2 hamsters different genders, they give birth a whole lot
*Buy them toys (wheel to run in or a hamster ball)
*Buy them food
*You can't touch them as much as dogs and cats because they might die
*Buy them a cage
I'm pretty sure love is needed.
I think it's not so hard but it is a big responsibility, but they are pretty stinky since you can't bathe them and clean them. But I guess it is a big responsibility, but if you don't put your mind, love and thought into owning a pet then it's no fun at all.
Just to tell you they can poop on your hand when you hold them up, and they jump down everything even if it's high up since they don't know anything and their brains are teensy. So be careful
Good Luck and have time to think about it 'kay?
I hope it helps
Kevin =D
no its not, it sounds like it but its easy, the only hard part is cleaning the cage because hamsters poop in corners and you have to scrub it really hard to take out the stains
Kind of depends on how much time you have. You need to keep its cage clean clean it once a week or so... fresh pellets and even scrubbing it down with pet soap... You also need to change its water and food everyday. And you need to give it plent of attention because it can go wild if you don't pay attention to it for more than 8 days straight. I'd get a teddy bear hamster...
No, they are actuall one of the easiest pets to take care of. I have one. They are VERY inexpensive and they do not need much. These are there biggest needs.
A nice roomy cage with a wheel and nesting house.
Food each morning about 1 tbs for a Syrian and a little less for a dwarf.
TLC (tender love and care)
Cage to be cleaned once a week.
I love having a hamster and they make great pets. They are also nocturnal. They rin there wheel pretty much all night too and make sure you get a Silent Spinner wheel. They do not squeak either. If you need more info visit this website:

Hope this helped:)

Well, it depends on what you think is big responsiblity. Hamsters need to have their cages cleaned once a week. They also need to be let out for about 10 minutes or more every day, to get exercise. Another thing, is that, sometimes, they can't be cheap. Also, if you have any other pets, that could harm your hamster, you will have to either keep your hamster's cage up high, or in a different room. There are more things that A hamster needs, and favores the most, but, this is just a small chart showing to you, if you think that they are a BIG responsabilty, or not. I hope that this answers your question! Thanks, and good luck,

Owning any pet is a big responsibility. You're in charge of every need this animal has. Do plenty of research into the care of a species before ever buying it! I can't tell you how many people I know who've bought an animal because it's "cute" and then found out how much work it really was!
Hamsters need to be handled daily (and not just for 5 mins eather! I'm talking at least an hour a day) Their cages need to be cleaned at least once a week (despite the fact that many people say it can go longer: let's keep the animal's health up and give them sanitary conditions to live in, hmm?)
I've had a hamster once. It is was a responsibility, but it wasn't HUGE. I mean i liked to play with my hamster a lot!! If you dont have time to actually handle it then you can alway buy and hamster ball and let it roll around somewhere, just make sure you keep and eye on it so it doesn't like roll down the stairs or get trapped somewhere. you also have to take great care of it like cleaning its cage out and putting new bedding in it and giving it water and food. oh-they LOVE fruits and veggies. like grapes,strawberries,broccli,ca... and simple stuff like that. just don't give them avocados. IT WILL KILL HAMSTERS, at least that's wat i heard!
not really, you have to feed him clean out his cage and occasionally take him out and hold him. They're fairly low maintenance.
no so. but u have to clean the cage every week or so. and change the food and water everyday. and play with it.
Every pet is a big responsibility.
Hamsters need love %26 alot of attention from their owners.
They also need food, water,a cage, bedding, and toys to play with.
it is a big responsibility. they are just easy to maintain. not too much trouble
Is ok to wash and give wet dandelions and clovers to a guinea pig?
yes me again asking about my guinea pig.
my guinea loves dandelions and clovers, but I always wash them. I heard that is not good for rabbits to give them wet clovers. what about guinea pigs?
Answers:
yeah it's perfectly ok. In the wild even bunnies eat wet greens. it is where they get most of their liquid from. you don't see bunnies lapping water from a stream do you? Guinea pigs are on of the best large rodents to have. Don't worry, the pigs natural instinct will tell him if its ok to eat.
If your Guinea Pig loves dandelions and clovers let him have them. Do you think he would worry about eating them wet if he was living in the wild? I don't think so. But check with your vet to be sure. You might be able to get an answer over the telephone on this one.
I would think this is fine! I've read that dandelion greens are a piggy favorite, though I can't recall if we've tried giving them to our boys or not. Wet or not, I think you're fine.
Yes, this is perfectly ok. Its good that you're washing them first.
Yes its fine. Good for you on giving them fresh greens. They also love the entire ear of corn. Often they like the husk and silk the best.
It's fine. My boys get a lot of their daily water from their veggies.

Is normal for my gerbils?Read details..?
Well, my gerbils always wake up in thier glass aquarium and they eat from thier food bowl and then they get bored and scratch at the cage and flip thier food bowl around and jump to the top of the cage to push the top off or something (luckly the top is latched) and whenever i put thier metal wheel in, they run on it for awhile then they flip it on its side and chew on the bars!!!! is this normal????? =0
Answers:
Lol! My gerbils do the same exact thing! Its completely normal. I don't even use the food bowl I bought for them, I just put the food at the bottom of the cage. Your gerbils will scratch the glass wall, but it does no harm at all. I have a metal wheel for my gerbils too, and they don't use it. So I don't even leave it in their cage, all they will do is flip it over and chew on it till it rusts. Give them paper, and cardboard to chew on. My gerbils have a roll-around ball too, and that is enough exercise for them. O, and my gerbils jumped to the top of the tank also, to try to get out. They will eventually realize they can't get out, and may stop. My gerbil did it for like three months straight, he doesn't even do it anymore now. I don't know if your gerbils will stop doing it, but the jumping definetly will decrease after some time. If you have ever owned a gerbil before, you would know that this is normal behavior for a gerbil. There funny like that!
Good luck with your gerbils! P.S.- Gerbils are better than hamsters!=)
I had two gerbils and they were goofy little guys. They also liked to tip over their homes and toys. They didn't really scratch at their food bowl but they did act like they were digging at the corner of their tank. Gerbils were originally desert animals and they absolutey love to dig. Its also good for the gerbils to chew so their teeth don't get too long. I don't think it's anything to worry about. Just be sure they don't hurt themselves. If you see that they do, you might want to call the vet. But I think they're just being energetic.
maybe theyre causing trouble because they are running out of things to do. if you don't have one yet, try getting one of those plastic balls you can put them in so they can roam around the room freely. i would suggest limit where they go though because they may leave a trail of poop along the way :)
I actually have 5+ gerbils: 2 parents, three of the older baby boys, and the most recent litter soon to be given away. My three older boys ( two of them are albino) are even crazier than your own. They jump from the bottom of the aquarium to a floating wheel in the topper. it is perfectly normal, especially if your gerbils are under two years old. Enjoy watching them while it lasts, pretty soon they will quiet down and not do much of anything once they get older. good luck!

Is Natural Pine Wood shavings with chlorophyll good for hamsters?
Answers:
Both Pine and Cedar shavings contain aromatic oils that are bad for your hamster's respiratory system and can lead to infections or other complications. Instead of pine, try using Aspen shavings, as Aspen contains no aromatic oils, or a recycled paper bedding such as Carefresh or Yesterday's News. These are the healthiest types of bedding, and offer better odor control than pine or cedar as well.
if you mean this, http://www.kaytee.com/products/image/?pi... or something like it, then yes. my dwarf hamsters loved it since it had the consistency of paper - which hamsters love to chew on.
if you can, try and air it out for a day or so before you use it so that the oils and odors that are naturally in pine disperse.
I use recycled paper that u buy in the pet store. It is like cotton but more durrable. It has no arroma so your hamster doesnt have any breathing problems.

Is my winter white hamster a baby? Hes really clumsy!?
He would trip over little things, moves really slow, and it would take him hours just to climb on top of his little house. It seems like all his movements are reallllly slow, like someone hit the slow motion button on him. Why is he like this? Is it because hes just a baby?
P.S. I just got him like 15 mins ago.
Answers:
He's probably just getting used to his environment and exploring. If you only got him 15 minutes ago you should be a lot more patient.
first tell me where u got the hamster, because if you got him from petsmart or petco there might b somthin wrong w/ him. he might have a disease becuz hamsters will not b sold a babies at pet stores.
He might me tiredi don't think there is anything wrong with him email me some photos if you want me to check for you.

Is my teddy bear hamster pregnant!?!?!?
i have a teddy bear hamster and i got her on the 10 of august and i dont know if she is pregnat i have a female and a male and i put them in a cage for a couple of days and i think she is pregnant how do i tell she is making a lot of nests and eatting and drinking ALOT! soooooo HELP!
Answers:
sounds like it get them fixed in less you wont alot of hamsters
if you put the male and female in a cage together, then the female is probably pregnant. you should have been watching them more closely!!
if she's making a big nest and from what you've seen of her, she hasn't done that before, she may be preparing her home for babies.
keep watching her and if you notice anything different about her (eating more than usual, just in general acting a little odd), you're probably going to get baby hamsters.
she probably is if she is making a nest although its hard to tell from her stomach that she is until a few days away from birth i suggest moving the male out and into something else until after the babies are gone just be patient the babies usually show up 16 days after she becomes pregnant and don't touch the babies until 2 weeeks after they are born (i usually wait 2 wks and 1 day before i touch them) she will make lots of nest and will use a lot of bedding so give a little extra she'll eat and drink a lot too
i love teddy bear hamsters too lol
Well, first of all, the only time you can put two hamsters together is when they are in the mood to mate. Otherwise they will fight till their death. I am pretty sure she is pregnant. I would seperate them. They will kill each other or the babies. This is from trying to so. So I really do know. NEVER PUT ANY RODENTS TOGRTHER. IT DOES NOT WORK. Good Luck.
Yes, she is pregnant. It happens pretty much every time---if you leave two opposite-sex rodents together in a cage for more than ten minutes and they don't kill each other...then the girl ends up pregnant.
Hamster gestation (pregnancy) only lasts a little over two weeks, so if you've already had her a week.you should know in about a week (if she wasn't already pregnant when you got her---that's happened to me several times). Make sure you give her as much water as she wants and a good, varied diet.nuts, a little cheese (not too much because of
the fat), carrots, apples, grapes, (no citrus fruits), along with her usual diet.
So...good luck! (And make sure to leave them alone for the first week after birth, except for adding food and water, of course.)
mabey but it sounds like my hamster and shes not pregnet
it does sound like she is pregnant. but PLEASE!! watch very closely for the next month because there is a possibility that she could eat the babies :( (gross, i no) be very vigilant and look up everything you can on how to take care of the mother an babies.
if shes doing that she probaly is pregnant. only clean her cage when needed, you don't want to disturb a pregnant hamster alot, put fresh food and water in her cage every day when you clean her cage put like 3 or 4 in. of bedding. if shes pregnant and has her babies don't touch them, don't touch them even though its very tempting. until you seperate them... you can't touch them.seperate them from their mother which is a about 1 month old ... YOU HAVE TO SEPERATE THEM BECAUSE HAMTSERS ARE TERRITORIAL EVEN TOWARDS FAMILY . Make sure mommy is as comfy as possible. i had a pregnant hamster and its very hard work

Is my Roborovski hamster pregnant? and Why is she attacking my other female hamster?
My boyfriend and I bought two Robovorski hamsters two days ago. One was bigger than the other and had a meaner disposition, but they were both sweet overall. We were unsure of the sex of the hamsters, but we knew they were both either girls or both boys. Now, the bigger one has grown even larger, and there are nipples visible on her belly. She's torn up the toilet paper I put in the cage and made a bed in the upper compartment and put food underneath it. She's also very active and is constantly running in the wheel in the cage. From all the websites I've looked at, these things seem to indicate a pregnancy, but I'm still not sure. Her bed/nest isn't very big, and she keeps attacking the other, smaller hamster, tearing out bits of her fur. Is it normal for these two to be this territorial? In the pet store, the bigger one would chase the smaller one around, but never actually attack it.
Answers:
she sounds pregnant take other hamster out or she will kill it or the babies as they are born she sees the other hamster as a threat to her young
Tissue tearing and storing food is behaviour of all hamsters, but as she is getting larger and her nipples are more visible, she could be.
Hamsters produce their litter very quickly. Its around 16 days after mating that they give birth, so you will find out very soon.
Hamsters are territorial creatures and really should be housed seperatly once adulthood is reached or fighting can result in death.
maybe she is in the heat, just like my female hamster.
Ok..
Rina is wrong, raborovski hamsters are social. Or.. so the book says.
In truth, some will fight. Why is unknown. If she is pregnant, that's probably it, and you'll have to seperate them. If not, yuo may well have to anyway. Certainly if blood is drawn, they'll need separating..
Hope they calm down, good luck.
I would keep the hamsters apart.
Most likely she is prgnant, but you will for sure find out within a wk or maybe less. All hamsters tear up toilet papaer thats normal, and so is storing food. For the little one if she is pregnant she might be more territorial or trying to protct her litter. You might want to think about seperating them to the maybe litter is born. =]
