My hamster today has been shaking a lot. I don't know if it is a breathing/asthma thing. I'm worried if she is dying and what I should do. She is able to get up to eat food still. Mostly she is lying there shaking/convulsing. I thought she might be hot, I put the air con now but she still is shaking. Poor thing, I hope she doesn't suffer too long or I can help her out. Any advise? Thanks!

Lisa take your pet to the vet now.. do not wait small animals can not tolerate much..Good Luck I hope she is ok
it probaly had a seizure so take it to the vet and see what they say.
hope it gets better
does she have clean water to drink and is she drinking.
you can try a vet or just make sure she has everything she needs and keep her cage and bedding clean.
Many hamsters shake when they are nervous or angry. However, shaking is one symptoms of hamster diabetes. Make sure it has plenty of water.
The shakes is a sign of dieing. How old is your hamster and which breed is she? A dwarfs life span is 1-2 years and a Syrians (large breed) is 2-4 yrs. I've seen this several times with my hamsters before they died, but to really be sure take her to the vet and make sure she's not sick instead. A vet can put her down so she won't suffer if it is her time nearing. Any animal can also have seizures. We have a mouse that has had them before, but he's been doing fine for 3 months not and not another seizure so far. A seizure will last for a few seconds to several minutes and then the animals acts fine, though tired. If yours is non-stop then I'm more apt to say it's not a seizure.
My oldest dwarf will be 18 months on Tuesday and 4 of my Syrians are 18 months today. We have 1 that is about 2 yrs and another that is over 3 yrs. All but 1 are males. On the 23 %26 24 of this month we will have 6 more turning 18 months old. All but 2 of the older dwarfs are doing very well. 2 are going to the vet tomorrow along for health related problems with the oldest Syrian, he has a little dry skin (not mange).
Is she cold? Maybe you should go to the Hamster shop and buy some special cotton for her. It works. Or maybe she is just starting to get old. My Hamster died and I buried her near my house. I visit her evey week.
bring her to the vet quick. There is no time to lose.
vet right away.

Is my hamster deaf?
My Russian Dwarf hamster, Knurla(nure-la) doesn't seem to respond to sound. I got her at the Humane Society I vollenteer for when she was about 4 weeks old. I don't think any of her sibs are deaf. PLEASE HELP!!
Answers:
hopefully she isn't. try to make some type of sharp noise to see if she can respond to it. or how about taking her wheel out and spinning it somewhere near her (make sure she isn't looking at it) to see if she hears it and wants it. i looked it up at yahoo and it said that deaf hamsters are nervous and jumpy. also, you may have a vet check her.
Hamsters quite often don't respond to loud noises because they don't have very good hearing so i don't think he is deaf.
hamsters will only react to high pitches,so she is not exactly deaf if her ears move when she heard a high-pitched sound like a squeak from a fellow hamster

Is my hamster dead?
he cold he not breathing he doesnt move his eye is closed he almost 3 year old his name is jally
Answers:
Yes, its dead. Bury it before it starts to smell
yea sounds like he is dead..sorry for ur hamster
get a torch, gently lift his eyelid and shine the torch in his eye, if the black part of his eye moves, he is alive. If it doesnt react then he is dead.
If he is alive call a vet now!
ya, that is what it sounds like from here sry dude
Aw, I'm sorry, if he's not breathing, yes he's not alive anymore. Nudge him a little to see if he moves when you bug him if he doesn't stop touching him and put him in a shoe box and bury him or give him to your parents. I'm so sorry.
well..if he's not breating then he's probably dead
if he's not breating he's dead...don't feel bad...my hampster commited suicide...he jumped down an air vent and my house stunk for weeks afterwards...lol

Is my hamster cage any good?
I got this cage at a garage sale about 2 years ago and it has been in my garage sence then i plan on cleaning it really good at putting card board on the wire hights because i heard they where bad for the hamsters feet, i'm soaking it in soap right now http://img407.imageshack.us/my.php?image...

I would highly recommend getting a new cage. If you don't, the hamster living in the cage will get sick and could die. Please, do the best thing for a hamster, get him a new cage! There aren't many hamster vets out there, and, if and when your hamster gets sick, there will be no one to ask for help.

Sell some fairly cheap hamster cages. Please, do what is right. I am not trying to be mean, but, it's true! Thanks for taking this answer in, and, if you have anymore questions, you can email me at: pethelper4@yahoo.com! Thanks, and good luck!
it should be fine
Thats an ockward cage if you ask me.
looks good and very big... I think ur hamster will like it, but put those beddings like wood chips.. Those cages look like for parrots and other birds...
Yes.
I use to have the same cage years ago.
Well if it has rust on it I wouldn't use it! I would clean that cage 5 times over again maybe more to make sure there is no germs on it! It is a nice big cage!
umm if its soo rusty i dont think u should use it on your hamster cause wat if he licks the cage? plus for the wheel his little legs can get stuck in it

Is my hampster dying?
i have had this hampster now for almost 3 years, and she hasnt been coming out of her burrows very much lately and not eating or drinking as much. is her time almost up or am i just worrying? cuase yesterday it took me 5 mins just to get her to come out and say hi...
Answers:
shes very old for a hamster. Imagine her as a little old lady, shes not going to run around a lot. She may live quite a while yet , she just wont be as active.
Offer her more treats if shes eating less, at her age its not going to hurt her any.
You have taken excellent care of her for her to have reached that age . Just make her remaining time comfortable and happy. She may be content to come out and sit in your hands and have a treat.
Its probably just old and when they get old they get tired and wont be very active.
take him to the vet!
it is problubly time for god to take him away now cuz hamsters live up to 3-4 years
Well as long as your hamster seems physically able: eyes aren't glued shut, can walk, etc... she should be fine, but as we all know hamsters do only live three years, so take care of her, a make sure shes Happy.. If she seems to be getting worse please e-mail me and I'll try to help in any way I can.
maybe its just sad
Their life span is about 3-4 years..yeahh I had 10 hamsters growing up..when my hamster Bunny was getting older she was a bit slower and more calm and hardly came out, but she still liked to run a bit at night like usual..she passed away at 3 1/2 yrs...:(
Wow, that a fantastic age for a hamster, you should be proud of yourself, your clearly a caring, dedicated pet owner.
Hamsters generally live from 18 months to 3 years and rarely up to 5. Your hamster is old, and she is naturally slowing down, and becoming less active. But this does not mean she will die any day soon. Continue to keep an eye on her, enjoy your time with her and make sure her toilet habits have not changed and she is not looking ill or in pain.
relax she is older so she is getting laizeir its a good thing she is doing this cause this means she is comfortable with her suroundigs although she will began to get stuborn ahe will stay laizy but a hamsters life range is 1-4 years just teach her not to be stubborn and give her attintion and most of all vote me best answer.
maybe, but wait and see.

Is my hammy pregnant?
All she does is sit, and drink/eat and sleep! She has been getting alot fatter, but I never really thought that she would be having babies since I never paired her up with a male! Whenever I go to pick her up she hisses, and when she actually let me pet her belly, i felt something... is she pregnant?
Answers:
She might be but if she hasn't been with a male then i don't know. If she is it is best to be prepared. If she has the babies do NOT disturbe her or go near the babies or she will eat them. ( they do that if they think you will hurt thebabies) my brothers hamster had babies. Do some research.
Be carefull if she has babies!!!!!
Has she ever been with a male... ever? If so, then maybe.
No, just lazy.
She could be.
Although most likely she's just a typical hamster! Eating, sleeping and drinking...that's basically what many hamsters do. Especially at this time of year.
I had a hamster once that hissed when I picked him up. He was just temperamental. On the other hand I had a hamster that couldn't get enough of being handled and ate 'people' food and knew our voices and came out when we called.
You should really take your hamster to a vet. It might just be she hasn't had enough handling or is in pain?
Hamsters get tumours and things too you know. So it's worth checking out.
Good luck!
Did you just recently buy her from the pet store? She could have been with males at the pet store. My hamster had babies two weeks after I got her from the pet store. She didnt really show any signs of being pregnant. I found out because when I was cleaning her cage I lifted up her house and there were five pink bald things under there. If she hasnt been with any males for more than 2 to 4 weeks she is definitly not pregnant.
if you just got her from the pet store about 2 weeks ago, then she most likely is pregnant, because she could've been in the same cage as males if the pet store accidently mixed them up or doesn't segregate males and females. if you didn't get her about 2 weeks ago, then she could be just getting fatter. but i think shes pregnant.
