Is chewing on the bars bad for my gerbils?

They have plenty of things to chew on but one of my gerbils still chooses to chew on the vertical bars on his cage. it this bad? he does it alot and from what i can see his teeth are fine. but im still wondering if it is a sign of something else.

I'm not exactly sure about gerbils but I know it's very bad for hamsters, it can cause brain damage. But it isnt that bad for rats. Although if they do it a lot it CAN mess up their teeth over time and this will cause them to stop eating. But he might be bored, maybe instead of just toys add tubing and boxes, things to crawl around inside and adventure. You can fill toilet paper rolls and put paper on the end and hang it somewhere kind of hard to reach and fill it with food, it challenges them and keeps them busy. If he keeps doing it, you might just want to transfer your gerbils to a large glass aquarium. You can fill it really full with bedding and let them dig and stuff.
I used to have a guinea pig that did that and what happened was he broke a tooth doing this, however it did grow back eventually.
mt giunea pig sometimes does that whenhe is bored or nervous ( bu only out of nervousness when we fist got him?
my hamster dose it when he is in need of treats or even food
