Is it a good idea to socialize my hamster?

I have a few friends with hamsters and I was wondering if it would be good for them to just get together and meet eachother.
It would be under very careful circumstances, of course, and I'd be watching them both the whole time to make sure they get along.
My hamster's just never been around any other hamsters since he was adopted.
Answers:
Most breeds of hamsters are not social animals by nature.
The males will sometimes fight to the death if in the same cage.Females are not always tolerant of other females either.
I believe there is a breed called Russian hamsters that will tolerate others in their cage but unless you both have those kind of hamsters I would say leave well enough alone.
The only time my hamsters tolerated each other was when my young son put a female in heat in a males cage and we ended up with 14 baby hamsters!!
An excellent idea. If they show interest it may improve the bloodline.
By the way, did you know that if you hang a hamster by its eyes its tail will drop off ?

Your hamster will brutally fight with the others..i don't think its a good idea..but if you wanna see what happens ..go for it..but i guarantee there Will be bloodshed
If this is a Syrian (golden, teddy bear, black bear, etc) hamster then don't bother. This species of hamster is absolutely not social in nature. If you have a male-female set of hamsters, introducing the two will only make the male frustrated (if you don't let them mate) and the female either frustrated or territorial. And unless the female is receptive, they will start to fight, and the fights can be deadly.
oh and another thing - they will also spend a good amount of time, scenting. Scenting females can get pretty stinky and the male will spend his time following her and sniffing.. I currently have two hamsters - a male and a female. When we bring one hamster to the same area where the other hamster was, all they do is scent. The kids introduced them a few times, and the female did NOT like the male's attention (when she wasn't in heat).
Do not socialize your hamster!! Hamsters are not sociable animals and will fight. and if you put two of the same sex then if yours is a female she could get pregnant.
It might be, it might not. If it is two males, definitally do not put them together. Males don't get along no matter what. i have had several bleeding fingers cause my two males found eachother. your best bet, i would say, would be to put thier cages side by side, at least let them know the other is there.
no they will fight esp. syrians they are solitary animals but you can put them in exercise balls separate of course and let them run around the house in them
put both hamsters in a neutral area (outside of each of their cages so that they won't have a fight over one invading the other's territory), make sure you watch them to see if they fight, though, because it's hard to introduce hamsters as adults, and in the wild, hamsters only get together to mate and not to be friends.
