Is my hamster getting old?

Hi, i have been observing my hamster and she started acting strange. She has a cage with tubes and stuff, she can reach her home by climbing up through a tube. and she hasnt been sleeping there for about 3 days. she is sleeping downstairs, on the slide, or right below her water cup. i thought she go old (in 3 days??) enough to get tired when climbing up the tube to get to her home, but then, i let her out to play on the floor, she went and did something she never does normally. she tried to get in every single little hole inside the room, behind the cupboard, under the door, she even got in inside her food box, which has a very small hole on it.
she has been with me for one and a half years. (she will be 2 years old this december.) how can i cope with this?
Answers:
mine will do the same thing from time to time. it may be to hot to sleep upstairs so she sleeps where it is cooler.i put less bedding in her sleeping compartment and that seemed to helped. its hampsters natural curiosity to want to go to conners and get into everything. mine loves to roll in her ball. we have had her for 3 years now. if you are not using vitmains then i would try getting her some.
i had 2 hamsters for four years (rusty and puffy R.I.P) he is middle aged aka going through a middle aged crisis. lol
If she's a Syrian hamster, it's possible that she's getting too big for her tubes, and it stresses her to use them. Make sure she has a varied diet too to keep her interested. Join www.hamsterific.com/BBS I love it you get loadsa great info. She is getting old, but hopefully has some more left in her yet!
My hamster is doing the same right now, and i've had her for about 2 years//2 and a half, so i put her in a new house. She got confused and woudln't keep still, kept falling over and looked generally anxious. She also tried to escape many times. I put her back in her old cage and I realised that the middle floor of the cage was loose and she couldn't reach it. I fixed it for her, and now she's fine and settled. I'm hoping she'll stay that well now.
Maybe you need to keep your hamster in it's cage and let it do its thing. Maybe it IS getting old and just needs it's own space. If it's drinking %26 eating the right things, I wouldn't worry about where it's sleeping. Good luck x
it could be she is hibernating which domestic hamsters do but you must wake her up as its dangerous for them..you need to give her extra bedding so she is warm, the breathing slows rite down and people often think they are dead as you cant see the chest rise at first (you have to look really close)and the body temp drops so they feel icy cold and wha youve described sounds as if thats wot your hamster is trying to do so give hm extra bedding and move him somewhere warm xxx
keep her comfortable. Try not to introduce to a new cage. Show her that you care for her. Feed her more veggies and friuts. Hamsters have a life span of about 1.5-3 years. Hope she gets better
my advice will be for you to enjoy the time you 2 have together...age will come to all,u cant do anything to stop her from growing old anyway...hamster is not a toy,so sometimes they can do the weirdest things...is there something new in her home that make her not wanting to go back to it??she is still in her prime,so no surprise for her to be active all of a sudden...
