Is pet rat urine harmful?

I got an email from somebody saying that a lady died from drinking out of a can coke that was stored in a wear house and it had rat urine on it. And they said that, that is what she died from????????
Answers:
I don't think that she actually died from the urine itself. Wild rats do have diseases so it could have been something like that. I've heard this 2 and I've had rats for the past 5 years and I'm fine. I kiss all my rats too.
As far as your pet rats urine being harmful don't worry about it. It's not any more harmful the the vegtables you buy that are dosed in pesticides. If by change some urine gets into you, you're not even going to tell.
yes , in this case it poised her
Only some kinds of mice and rats can give people hantaviruses that cause HPS. In North America, they are the deer mouse, the white-footed mouse, the rice rat, and the cotton rat. However, not every deer mouse, white-footed mouse, rice rat, or cotton rat carries a hantavirus. Other rodents, such as house mice, roof rats, and Norway rats, have never been known to give people HPS. Since it is hard to tell if a mouse or a rat carries a hantavirus, it is best to avoid all wild mice and rats and to safely clean up any rodent urine, droppings, or nests in your home. Dogs and cats cannot give people hantavirus infections.
