Is the red mucous (porphyrin Sp?) in rat's eyes curable?

My rat has red mucous coming out of his right eye. His cage is clean w/ carefresh, he's very laidback (don't think it's stress), and he enjoys tons of time out of his cage. He doesn't have any signs of respiratory problems either.

Best thing to is take it the vet for medcine and a check up.
I do think that it is curable, but you should go to the vet..
the "red mucous" is porphyrin, there is no "cure" for it, its suppose to be that color.
i don't have enough experience to tell you why your rat's eye is like that, but you should email spazrats, she is beyond devoted to rats and should be able to tell you whats going on. look at the other rats questions and you'll find her!
better yet, theres her link below
It sounds like he's got a weepy eye. You can take your rat to the vet to make sure there's nothing stuck in his eye (like a bit of dust or something) that's irritating it, but all in all, he sounds like he's probably okay. The red stuff is like the eye yuck we get in our eyes, so you kinda don't want it to stop showing up. If it gets worse (redness of the skin around his eye, more weeping than before), definately head to the vet, but I wouldn't worry too much right now.
