Is teeth grating a sign of aggression in gerbils?

Answers:
I don't think so no. I would say he is probably trying to keep his inscisor teeth from overgrowing. Maybe you could give him something to knaw at in his cage. Keep an eye on those inscisor teeth if you can, all rodents have them, and if they overgrow, it is harfull to your pet. Check with a vet if you are worried. I am sure they won't charge much to look and maybe clip the tooth down. They would be able to advise what he can use to knaw at too.
Its a sign of indecision,, they probably need a separate annexe.
No it's a sign of irritation -does he only do it when you are there?
Do you find food outside the cage? Perhaps he is actually tossing it back at you. Does the cage have chewed bars? Perhaps he is trying to escape from being put in the running wheel...one more time. Things of that sort. ;-)
yes he is probably irritated at u
actually... i dont know if this aplies to gerbils, but rats *brux* when content. Maybe gerbils do the same.
mazzer is right its to keep their teeth filed down.pet shops sell so many different small animal chew or key in gerbil chews in google and loads comes up.
Put a smooth piece of wood in his cage for him to knaw on all rodents teeth grow continuously and need to keep them down and they do this by knawing.
