Is it ok if I let my gerbil chew on a stick from a tree??

Ok, on this website i read that its ok to let your gerbils chew on peices of wood only if its not treated. So i went outside and got a stick from my tree, and i gave it to my gerbils to chew on. But then I was like oops whats if its "treated". So whats treated wood.

卢I wouldnt recomend it. It might be ok if you soak it in HOT water or a while, but you never know what kind of bacteria and other things might be on the natural wood that your gerbil has never been exposed to. Dont forget it was bread in captivity and doesn't have the immunities a wild animal would have.
Treated wood is wood that has been chemically preserved to prevent rot and decay. Lumber from the hardware store is usually where you would find treated wood.
So unless you have been spraying insecticide on the trees outside that stick should be perfect. It is after all what they would find running wild.
i wouldnt reccomend it, not only could it be treated wood...it could have all kinds of bacteria and diseases on it that your gerbils can get. If you want them to chew on something, go to the petstore and get a chewstick that you know for a fact is safe.
Your gerbil is fine. Treated wood: wood from a tree that has chemicals sprayed onto it. Not many peeps spray their trees.
as long as you wash the stick and take off all the pointy things on it it should be fine,
go for skinny sticks there less likely to have bugs in them
also make sure its from your own backyard and you don't spray the trees you don't know what evil things your neighbors do to their trees
