Is it true that gerbils love to play with cats?

someone told me that gerbils love to play with cats, but I'm not sure cuz the cats could eat them, I've put my gerbils in a ball and they chased the cat every where, is that what they mean?
Answers:
NO! My gerbils loved to chase people and other animals in the little rolly balls, but if you leave them next to the cat, the cat would kill them. Cats love gerbils. Believe me, i know. I have 2 cats and used to have 2 gerbils, and even if the cats dont kill the poor gerbils, they can sure leave a dent with their claws. So it's definitely NOT A GOOD IDEA! lol, common sense, really. if cats (in the wild) didn't eat mice and gerbils and stuff, how would they survive?
It sounds like someone is pulling your leg.
Of course they would eat them.
Gerbils love cats - until the cat eats their eyeballs out of their head.
yes, its also true that lions love to play with caribou
no way the cats would eat them
This just needs some common sense. No, of course it's not true. The gerbil would most likely be terrefied of just the smell of the cat in the house. It'd probably be petrified if you let a cat into the room to 'play' with it.
When they're in a ball, they're safe and they know the cat can't get into the ball, or maybe they're just brave?
Just don't let your cat around your gerbil unless you're there to make sure the gerbil isn't injured, or the cat, even.
NOO! of course not, the cat would kill the gerbils. the ball thing would work though, as long as the ball is taped shut!
Gerbils are not easily frightened by larger animals like cats and dogs. Although it is not smart to let your gerbil out of its ball and let it play with the cat. The cats would most likely eat them however. Here is a website with some info on it.
no. they just don't like your gerbils
I have no idea but i got 2 points!LOL!!!!!
Hey! You above me! You'll get 10 points if you're smart enough to get a best answer you know!
I don't know, but ask someone who works at a HUGE pet shop like petco.
Gerbils have no natural fear of cats, but don't want to play with them. They are just oblivious to the danger.
Therefore, it is especially important with gerbils that you close the door to the room they are in when you are not in there -- then if they should get out of the cage they won't run up to the cat and get eaten.
if they like to i dont but i know they wont play for more then 1min dont let them near each other.
It's true to the extent that they love to scare the cats while in a ball, but I wouldn't try putting them together in any other way. There's a chance they'll get along but it's not a chance I would be willing to take.

  1. i once had a cat named oreo, now at the time oreo was only a kitten but i had about 5 gerbils in an open-top cage and the cat would jsut love to get inside it and lay around with my gerbils idk if it was the soft bedding or what but he just loved being in there with them and not once did he ever harm them, even as he got older he was always very gentile with my gerbils he would pick them up with his mouth like a moma cat would her kitten but never ever did he once harm them
