Your mum is right.respiratory problems like asthma %26 allergic responses can be caused by both cedar %26 pine shavings. Buy a paper shredder %26 you will be laughing!
Maddy
Cedar shavings are bad. Pine is okay.
no, i have used shavings all time.
Yes, it is true because many woods contain insecticides and/or glues that would make the hamsters ill. You can safely use shredded paper. Newspapers now use soy ink so even printed pages are safe. While shavings sold in pet stores are likely safe, who knows if it comes from China or not?
no just make shure that they are small anouf and that the food and watter dish are high
Yes, wood shaving alot of the time have parasites, and insect that will eventually kill your hamster. Plus the oils from woods irritates their skins and organs sometimes and causes them other issues. Go for paper bedding or egg carton bedding. It is most certainly in your best interest. Otherwise your pet might die from something preventable.
Well they say that cedar shavings are bad .. Pine is ok...
yes. but make sure the paper doesn't have ink on it or it will get ink poising!
Yes they are bad, but still usuable. I had a gerbil and I used pine shavings for him and he did just fine but the smell was gross. So i switched to Odor Absorbent stuff and it was better for him and smelled better. You can get it at Wal-Mart, its not that much.
The only reson it would get problems is if it were clorored shavings. Just make sure they have somthing to chew on because there teeth are always growing. Such as a tolit paper role thy can hide chew and Play in them. They LOVE it.
Cedar shavings are bad. This will be the reddish shavings that you see at stores. When mixed w/ urine it becomes toxic to the hamster.
Pine is a much better choice, however you do need to clean it once a week (more if your hamster pottys like crazy).
Basically, always get pine put a little bit of torn toilet paper (non scented/lotion) in there for him to play with.
Aspen shavings are the safest shavings for small animals. Cedar and some pine have very potent aromatic oils that are harmful to your pig. Kiln dried pine with no added fragrance is also safe to use. NO CEDAR ever!
it depends on the type of wood shaving.
apsen or kiln dried pine are fine, although hamsters like paper because it's easy for them to make a nest.
if you use wood shavings, just put in some toilet paper for it.
I use carfresh bedding. It is sold at all pet stores and is very good for small animals. It is better then wood and cedar shavings. Carfresh is made of natural recycled materials.
yes she's right, use super shavin's sold at petsmart
